About Me

About me

I'm Jordyn! A 21 year old student originally from Wellington but is now residing in Christchurch to study my passion, nursing! I grew up in a very loving household where my mum taught me lots about cooking on a budget. I left home at 17 and moved to the South Island, this is where I learned the hard the truth it isn't easy to feed myself on little money. When I moved here in late 2021 I lived in a mouldy flat with 3 boys and was a sole cook. I managed to keep to a budget of $160 a week (all food) for a couple years. My family was very impressed by this and my mum encouraged me to start a blog sharing my knowledge on budgeting and cooking. I originally just sat on the idea because I was so busy with work and study. I now live in mold free flat with my partner and now have a job that isn't so time consuming. Because it's just my partner and I, I try to keep to a budget of $80 a week for all food. I am so passionate about helping people, and through nursing I have seen how people are struggling to put food on tables. I hope this page can help a few people, even if its just to give people meal ideas. Through nursing I have learnt a fair bit about nutrition and how to create meals that are good for the body and mind. I say this as i've worked in mental health and seen what a poor relationship with food can do to someone and I wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy. I strongly believe that people and their whanau should be able to enjoy food and be able to prepare solid meals without barriers like finances.

lots of love

    1. This cracked me up haha. I chose to be the sole cook, I enjoy cooking and the boys often weren't home to make dinner so I made it.

  4. Hey Jordyn, this is awesome. I'm currently living in spain and have seen how much more expensive groceries are in nz - I fully support anything that can help kiwis eat better for less, everyone should be able to eat well without needing to take out a second mortgage! if you ever need any help with getting your own website etc just let me know, I run PogoStick Web Services and offer free hosting for selected charitable initiatives
